This novella is the first draft or I should say version , since only later Christie thought to make a novel out of it of the Poirot novel Dead Man s Folly, which I read years ago and which I remember as one of the very few Poirot cases whose solution I didn t exactly appreciated I ve always felt as if, with the couple of factual indications that he actually had, Poirot concocted a fantabulous and a little far fetched, though very suggestive, solution that accidentally proved to be the right one [...]
For reasons I won t go into, Dame Agatha Christie was unable to publish this tale in its original novella format and it eventually became the novel Dead Man s Folly The story suffers not at all for its abbreviated form, and, whether you ve already enjoyed Dead Man s Folly, as I have, or you re coming to the mystery with fresh eyes, you should like it very much.Ariadne Oliver, Christie s ditzy, tongue in cheek alter ego, imperiously summons Hercule Poirot to Greenshore House, purchased by the unp [...]
This novella was originally written for publication in a magazine, but, astonishing as it sounds, could not find a home due to the odd length neither a short story or a novel Agatha Christie had written it in order to raise money for a new stained glass window at the church she worshipped at, but decided to write a new story with a similar title featuring Miss Marple she used a similar title as she wanted the story to reflect the home she purchased in 1938 and loved dearly Thankfully, she felt t [...]
Adorable, and as always Poirot always reconstructs the crime perfectly in his head before you ve even had time to familiarise yourself with the suspects then helpfully describes it to his fascinated readers Lovely little story, and all Christie s proceeds went to repairing a stained glass window
lebih suka versi yg ini dibandingkan Dead Man s Folly.
This novella featuring Hercule Poirot and Mrs Ariadne Oliver has an interesting history It was written originally to fund a stained glass window in the author s local church Unfortunately it did not sell partly because it is neither a novel or a short story Eventually Christie wrote a Miss Marple short story with a similar title to fund the window and developed the novella into a full length novel which was later published under the title of Dead Man s Folly.Having recently read and enjoyed Dead [...]
I really like Ariadne Oliver and Christie when she s succinct She clearly borrowed from or was paying homage to Cold Comfort Farm with this one though, right Always be Folliats at Greenshore I kept waiting for someone to say they d saw something nasty at the boathouse.
Hercule Poirot and the Greenshore Folly is only interesting because of its history Christie originally wrote this novella, but could not find a publisher The problem appeared to be that it was neither short enough to be published as short stories nor long enough to be published as a novel Ultimately, Christie had to rewrite it and finally published it under the name Dead Man s Folly. The story is the same as the novel George Stubbs has purchased an old mansion from an old lady, Amy Folliatt His w [...]
Robbie s Review I must confess I haven t read one of Agatha Christie s books in a long time They were a passion of mine at one time and I methodically read through each of the Hercule Poirot and Jane Marple books because I was fascinated by the intricacy of the author s plots When I was offered the opportunity to read and review Hercule Poirot and the Greenshore Folly, I was reminded of how much I love M Poirot and his facile mind.Summoned urgently by his friend novelist Ariadne Oliver, M Poirot [...]
Hercule Poirot and the Greenshore Folly is a never before published lost classic This book was found after 60 years and has been released in digital format by Witness Impulse, an imprint of HarperCollins I received a copy of this book from the publisher and Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.Hercule gets an urgent call from his old friend, Mrs Oliver She says she needs him and insist he come at once, but fails to explain why Upon arrival, Poirot finds his friend is hosting murder She als [...]
It s a great idea for a story but could have done with being longer.
Finished this book in one day, or should I say in one sitting The story is kind of reminds me with story that I ever read in detective manga It s about a murder play that turn to be the real murder mystery The trick and the weapon is not really impressive I think the good point about the story is the motive Also the background of every character I enjoy this story but not really surprised with the conclusion of the case.
This was the shortest of the Christie books that I have read it only took a couple of hours to finish it Perhaps that is why I didn t enjoy it as much as the others It felt fairly rushed and even after I found out who the killer was, I couldn t understand how Poirot deduced it This was the original version of the story written for a church fundraiser but it didn t do well so it was later expanded It s possible the expanded version may have contained detail that would have made the ending of a [...]
Sdh lamaaaaaa gak baca Poirot dan menikmati cara penyelidikannya yg anggun dan metodis Meskipun singkat, dan sdh baca versi novel panjangnya, tetap saja hepi sayang ukuran bukunya bukan mmpaperback, jd kurang serasi nangkring di rak koleksi AC yg lain kurang serasi D
I am beginning to wonder , that Agatha Christie must be a criminal to write such mind boggling crimes. The story revolves around a Murder Hunt which is staged by some one as a purpose of entertainment A Novelist friend of Poirot is asked to design the game A very perfect stage for creating a real Murder under the backdrop of game, where nothing can go wrong was created. The Only mistake to the prefect Act was inviting a perfect man Poirot to give away the prize and nothing can escape eyes of the G [...]
So apparently Agatha Christie likes stained glass windows She assigned the rights to this novella to her local church in order to fund such a project However when the church couldn t find an interested buyer too short to be a novel and too long to be a short story for a magazine , she shelved the novella and wrote them a Miss Marple short story instead She then expanded the novella into what would become Dead Man s Folly and the original novella went unpublished And here it is I remember enough [...]
I really thought this book was a separate book A real novel which consist than 30.000 words, since the pages count looks legit I didn t try to find about this book before buying it What I know was, the back cover said about Christie s unpublished work after 60 years I thought it was something like wow, a long lost work Must be precious It is, but well, I think I do regret a little for buying it Because this was a novella, not a novel.More on sulurabu.wordpress 2018 0
My Mum bought me a beautiful hardcover copy of this from the gift shop at Greenway, Agatha Christie s holiday home and the setting for this little story It was my first Christie and I enjoyed being taken through the rolling hills of Devon where I currently live and onto the lawns of the lovely old manor house It felt a little quick paced and a little simplistic but it was an enjoyable short read.
